The Brothers must battle through five levels, each with ten different rounds to clear. Each round is a giant room with a different configuration. Your view of the action is from the side. And what a view it is! Gorgeous colors and super-cool enemies abound in every area. From the fire-spit-ting gargoyles to the fuzzy knife-tossing blue meanies who turn into whirling cyclones, each enemy packs its own tricks of the trade and personality. At the end of every ten rounds there's a no-holds-barred battle with a giant boss monster.
ProTips:
In rounds where the brothers have to face the fuzzy blue enemies that turn into cyclones, Nick and Tom should try to eliminate these guys immediately -- before they turn into whirling dervishes.
If you can jump on top of a snowball and make it to the top of this level, you can freeze this snowball-tossing enemy and earn a special bonus.
The strategy for beating each boss is similar. Freeze the tiny enemies the boss sends after you and roll the snow boulders back at the boss.
Play the slot machines between rounds to earn special items.
Cool Dudes
Gameplay is similar to Bubble Bobble -- the Brothers must plaster all of the enemies in each area to earn a one-way ticket to the next area. Nick and Tom are armed with only one major weapon: snow! But wait'll you see what they can do with it! The Brothers toss it at enemies, roll it into man-sized boulders, and send the boulders thundering down slopes, across ledges, and every which way to knock out enemies.
Nick and Tom can toss snowballs in an am, which means you can hit enemies with some well aimed shots -- even when there's a barrier between them and you.
If Nick or Tom can manage to make a snowball and get it to ricochet back and forth in a confined area, they can earn tons of extra points.
If the Brothers can manage to wipe out an entire round-full of enemies with one snowboulder they'll earn a special bonus surprise!
The Brothers can make a snowball and then hop on for a ride down a snowy slope -- wiping out the bad guys in the resulting avalanche.
Don't forget that the Brothers can lift snowballs and move them to higher levels.
Don't relax too quickly after you clear a round of enemies. If anything hits you before you zap to the next round you'll still lose a life!
Tasty Frozen Treats
The Brothers can also grab special items like Popsicles, Pies, Hot Sauce, and potions that give them different special abilities and make their lives a little easier. At the end of each level they can also play the slot machines to earn bonus items.

- If a little Snow Face appears during the round and Nick or Tom can grab it, they'll warp to a bonus round.
There's No Business like Snow Business
Snow Brothers has the same magical feel of classic games like Bubble Bobble and the Marios. Everything about this game, except the music, is top-notch. The difficulty level won't make you tear your hair out, but there's more than enough fun to entertain even the most advanced gamers. Check it out and do a little slip-pin' and a slidin' of your own.
Warning: In this section I assume that you already have a working installation of Snow Bros. If you do not, please go to my Snow Bros Installation Guide page and follow the instructions there.
So you just installed Snow Bros and you found yourself at the start up screen, with no idea of how to work the MAME or the game. You just did double click and Snow Bros appeared full screen, and there is no menu, not a mouse or anything. Let my help you get started
First thing you must know is that the MAME menu, that is, where you configure both the emulator and the game, starts hidden, and to raise it you must press the [TAB] key. Press it again to hide it. From this menu you can do a lot of things. Just be careful, you could mess up the engine so bad that you may have to reinstall! If you are new to MAME, I suggest you only change the controls (I tell you how below) and nothing else. If you want to learn more about the MAME emulator, you have great documentation at their website.
Game Controls
Choosing your controls
Now you probably would like to change the controls to something that you feel comfortable with. You must know that Snow Bros uses 4 directions buttons and two actions ones. Press [TAB] to raise MAME main menu and then go to 'Input (this game)'. Scroll down with the down direction key until you see a block of entries that start with 'P1'. Those are the game controls for Player One. I would leave the directions are they are, with the arrow keys, and change the 'P1 Button 1' (to throw snow) and 'P1 Button 2' (jump button), to something comfortable. (In the picture you can see my choices). Do not bother with 'P1 Button 3' as it is useless. That why I have an U assigned.
Now, just press [TAB] again to hide the menu, you are almost ready to start shooting snow! All you have to do know is to throw in a coin (press [5]) and then push the One Player start button (press [1]). You are playing! Move around with the arrows, and shoot snow at the bad guys with the [d] key. (If you followed my example, or whatever key you have choose). Now use the [s] key to jump and get higher to attack other baddies. Do not let them catch you!
Basic options
Now, I would like to show you some of the most basic (and useful) options of the MAME emulator. You can see them on the image
When you press the [F12] key, a snapshot of the game is created. You can find the image in the 'c:mamesnap' folder. That is, if you followed my Snow Bros Installation Guide.
Basic emulator options
You can hold the left [ALT] key and while doing so press also the [ENTER] key. This will make MAME run in a window, instead of full screen mode. You can toggle betwen those to modes with the same keys shortcut.
In order to play, the machine needs 'coins'. Remember that Snow Bros as originally an Arcade Machine game! To insert coins just press [5] several times. For each coin you will get a 'credit', which is 3 lives. Press the number [1] to start a one-player game.
To exit Snow Bros, press the [ESC] key.
